Catherine’s Puppies has officially opened the doors to its brand-new adoption centre, marking a major milestone for animal lovers and the Sai Kung community. After weeks of hard work, the centre is now ready to welcome visitors from all over Hong Kong, with the goal of finding homes for the many adorable dogs in its care.
A New Space for Rescue Dogs Located next to Pets Central vets and just a few metres from The Picture House, the centre offers a welcoming space for people looking to adopt or foster a dog—or even just to enjoy some puppy cuddle therapy. The idea to open the centre wasn’t initially part of the plan, but when the opportunity arose, Catherine Lumsden, the founder of Catherine’s Puppies, couldn’t pass it up.
“I hadn’t really planned on opening a centre, but when the space became available, it just made sense,” Catherine explains. “We get so many visitors at our events, and having a central location helps logistically. I hope it will benefit not only the dogs but also the Sai Kung community, especially local businesses that are still recovering from the impact of COVID.”
Community Support Makes It Possible Getting the space ready in such a short amount of time was no small feat. Catherine credits much of the success to the incredible support she received from the community. Renovations were led by John Wilkinson and his team at RenovateHK, who offered their services at a significant discount, only charging for materials. Local artist Namiko also added a personal touch with her dog-themed artwork, donating 80% of her pet portrait commissions to the charity.
The centre’s decor is simple yet cheerful, with some of Catherine’s mother’s paintings contributing to the welcoming atmosphere. “There’s still so much to do, but we’re getting there,” Catherine says enthusiastically.
A Bright Future for Rescue Dogs The new adoption centre will be all about dogs, offering adoption packs from Buddy Bites, pet supplies from Happy Paws, and a special health check deal from Pets Central Sai Kung, with proceeds going back to Catherine’s Puppies. Catherine is constantly thinking of ways to make adopting or fostering a dog a wonderful experience for all involved.
The centre will also play a vital role in educating the public, especially children, about animal welfare. Young volunteers will have the chance to help out on adoption days, and families can spend meaningful time together while supporting a great cause.
Catherine’s Puppies continues its mission to find loving homes for rescue dogs, and the new adoption centre is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting and impactful chapter for the charity.
